Our ocean lifeguard course is a surf open water lifeguard course taught through a lifeguard training academy format. It is directed to individuals interested in working as ocean lifeguards at surf beaches. It includes pool lifeguard and waterfront lifeguard (non-surf open water lifeguard) certifications, but does not include Professional Adult/Child/Infant CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation) at the BLS (Basic Life Support) level, AED (Automated External Defibrillator) use, O2 (Oxygen Administration), Bloodborne Pathogens Awareness nor Advanced First Aid / Emergency Medical Response (which may be taken separately prior to this course or in combination with it). Duration: 60 hours (not including on-line hours / independent study).
Prerequisites:
-Minimum age: 18 years.

-Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from a certifying organization accredited by CAPCE (that shows up at this list: https://capce.org/Home/Providers). Requisites:
-Crowl swim of 500 meters in 10 minutes (at pool / confined waters).
-Brick test in 1 minute and 40 seconds or less (at pool / confined waters).-Horizontal underwater swim of 25 meters (at pool / confined waters).
-Run-swim-run 200 meters each portion (at beach / non-surf open water).-Crowl swim of 1000 meters in 20 minutes or less (at beach / non-surf open water).
-Tread waters for 1 hour.
Recommended:
We recommend lifeguard candidates to obtain Advanced First Aid or Emergency Medical Response certification since certain states (like the State of California) require public safety personnel to possess knowledge and skills beyond basic/standard first aid. -GLC Aquatic Safety Dept. (international bilingual wall certificate).
-DC-3 form from STPS (only for Mexico).
